A Personal Brand Strategy is a must for anyone who takes their career seriously.
I love the quote from Jeff Bezos that says “Your brand is what people say about you when you’re not in the room.” Now if you’ve listened to any of my podcasts or content, you know that I’m always saying that you can’t control what other people think. But you can control how you show up.
You can control the information YOU put out in the world about you.
To help me have this conversation, I’ve invited a branding expert; Julie Hamilton.
She has 20+ years of branding experience, and she’s someone I worked with at McDonald’s. Julie has her own Branding Agency called INTENTION where she works with corporate brands to help them get crystal clear about what their brand stands for and how to communicate that brand story in a consistent way.
Yes. Companies pay huge bucks to Agencies to help them do this. Why? Because it’s important. People buy from brands they connect with and trust for a consistent experience.
It’s the same for you. You have a personal brand whether you’re focused on it or not. Everything you do or don’t do sends a message and leaves a mark about what it’s like to work with you.
So it makes sense that if you want to accelerate your growth and build a strong reputation about WHAT and HOW you deliver, it’s time to get purposeful about the brand your building.
In this episode, Julie and I are going to apply the principles of Corporate Branding to your Personal Brand Strategy.
Now I’ve worked in Advertising and Marketing for the majority of my career, and I was really inspired by Julie and the ideas she shared about how she recommends applying branding principles to your personal brand. In fact, I’ve incorporated many of these ideas (plus a few more) into my monthly self-coaching membership program.
Here are the top five questions Julie recommends you answer if you want to build your personal brand (she pulled these directly from the corporate branding brief she uses at INTENTION)
- What are your values? What are the guiding principles that influence your decisions?
- Who are you at your core? What’s your WHY?
- What’s your vibe? What’s your chosen style and manner that defines your behaviour?
- Who are you at your best?
- How do you want people to feel when they engage with you?
I think these questions are a fantastic place to start. In the membership, we break it down even more, but you’ll get really good, rich insight just from listening to this episode.
I can’t wait for you to check it out and let me know what you think.
