#017: I Blew It With My Bad Boss... But You Don't Have To | The Career Reset

Is a bad boss making your job a misery?  As the saying goes, people don’t quit a job, they quit a boss.  According to Gallup, 75% of the reasons people quit come down to their managers.

So if you have a bad boss, you wouldn’t be alone in thinking your only option was to find another job.

But the truth is, of those 75% of people, many of them left because they weren’t capable of handling the situation.  So they ran away from it.

I did the same thing.

But there is another way.  There is a more effective way to manage a bad boss, and not let it get in the way of a job you (otherwise) love.

Let me paint this picture instead.  What if you were able to turn your bad boss’ behaviour to your advantage? What if you were able to devise a strategy to get your bad boss on your side and leverage that relationship to accelerate your own growth?

In this weeks’ podcast episode, I want to share my bad boss story and how I totally blew it. And I want to share why I blew it and what you can do to take control of your bad boss situation.  I’m going to give you three big strategies so you can use your bad boss as an opportunity to accelerate your growth.

But it is going to take a bit of work. I would understand if you were thinking why should I bother with this? It’s easier if I just find another job.

And that might be the right solution for you. Who knows.

But here’s the thing. This isn’t the only bad boss you’re going to have in your life.  If you run away every time you have a bad boss, you’re going to be leaving jobs a lot.

Instead, if you implement some of the strategies in this podcast, you will empower yourself to be more in control of your situation.

Learning to deal with a bad boss is a SUPERPOWER everyone needs.

So in this episode, I’m going to share my story of how I blew it with my bad boss.  I’m going to give you examples and ideas around these three strategies you can use to leverage your bad boss situation.

  1. BE CLEAR ON THE KIND OF BAD BOSS YOU’RE DEALING WITH
  2. ACT LIKE A LEADER
  3. PROTECT YOUR BRAND

AND I have a FREE Workbook for you to start to work out your own bad boss strategy.  It’s called the Must-Have Guide for Dealing with a Difficult Boss.

It actually goes through the strategies we talk about in the podcast, PLUS it has a worksheet on the end to help you build your own strategy for how you can best leverage YOUR bad boss situation.

Download your free guide in the link below.

So even if you’re not sure how you want to deal with this situation, listen to the podcast.  Make sure you’ve done everything you can to leverage the situation to your advantage.

Don’t give your bad boss your power.  They don’t deserve it. Listen to this podcast instead and take control of how you want to show up in this situation.
